RRTTS

Research oriented : Gall midge manace in nine endemic blocks was eliminated with the initiation of RRTTS in mobilising the adoption of tolerant varieties.

Performance of Maize cv: Navjot and Varun with recommended agronomic package of practices in front line demonstration programmes have led to wide spread adoption of the crop resulting 27.6 and 20.4 % increase in area and productivities of the crop, respectively

Production oriented : The RRTTS,Keonjhar still holds its reputation as a profitable seed production farm generating on an average 131.2 % profit over years,through production of quality seed materials.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra

A successful broiler farming led by a tribal youth.

Enterprise taken up with brief notes : Broiler unit.

          Mr. Radha Mohan Giri have started two broiler units (100 birds each) financed by Baitarani Gramya Bank under NABARD AUTO finance scheme. This assistance has helped them to construct poultry shed and other working capitals. Besides rearing Broiler chicks from Joshipur hatchery, he has a unit of broiler chicks from Bhubaneswar. Day old chicks @ Rs.16.25 per chick are delivered at their point from agents of Joshipur and Bhubaneswar Hatchery. They purchased broiler feed from market and the broiler unit was managed by unemployed youth and ladies of the family. He has already raised 6 batches of a broiler birds (100 each)The broiler birds (35-40 days old) are being sold at @ Rs.45.00 per kg of live Weight. On average they get Rs.15.00 net profit per bird from the broiler unit. Paddy husk is used as litter material and after each batch this was removed to be Used as manure in the crop fields.

Profit and Loss : He has got net profit Rs.18000.00 in a year (Rs.15.00 per bird)

Comment in brief : He is a unemployed youth and earned an average Rs.1,500.00 per month from the broiler unit. This unit acts as model for the income generating activity for the tribal youth and also create awareness among the other rural youth for the self employment.

Civil Supplies ( Success Stories )

Food Supplies

          The one-window delivery system i.e. distribution of essential commodities through Gram Panchayats in 13 Blocks of the district has been introduced is a lane mark in the history of Public Distribution System and has been reviewed by different high power committees of the Government of India as well as Government of Orissa who have visited this district, reviewed the system and found it to be very satisfactory. Besides this 3 Model Fair Price Shops are functioning at Keonjhar town, Anandapur and Daitary for smooth distribution of essential commodities in the area.4 (four) Mobile vans have been deployed in the district in order to facilitate in transporting of stocks from storage depot to retail point at genuine rate. Apart from this, in case of emergency, the Orissa State Civil Supplies Corporation  Ltd. is selling commodities in interior pockets direct to the consumers through Mobile Vans. It is stated here that, the Orissa State Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd. has taken the Agency of L.P.Gas (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd.  to facilitate supply  of Gas Cylinder to the Consumers of Keonjhar proper, since 1995-96 and the business is running smoothly with utmost satisfaction of consumers. 

          For proper storage of stocks in rural areas of the district 9 (nine) Departmental Godowns having capacity 250 Metric Ton each having constructed. Action is being taken for construction of another 4 (four) nos of Storage Godowns in remaining Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) Blocks having 250 Metric Ton capacity and 1 (one) godown having 2000 Metric Ton capacity in district Head Quarters.

Mass Education

  • One handicapped person namely Sri Jagannath Mohanta of village Silipada of Saharpada Block, who was completely disabled managed to rum conduct a total literacy centered one k.m. away from home. He was going their regularly by a wheel chair. His wife Smt. Binodini Mohanta,who was also disabled conducted another total literacy centre near her house for ladies. Both the wife and husband inspired learners to keep cows for production of milk and also formed one milk producers union.

  • In a remote place of Harichandanpur Block, one volunteer whose qualification was class VIII was able to make 30 learners literate. The learning standard of the learners was tested by the core group members and block coordinators, which was found to be much better than others.

  • In Joda Municipality area in a slum area there was a place where country liquor was prepared. Being inspired by the literacy campaign the owner stopped the production of the liquor there and spared that place for running the total literacy centre and also the slum people were motivated to declare the slum a prohibited area for liquor.

  • One live stock Inspector named Ramakanta Naik of village- Nuagaon of Telkoi Block was running a total literacy centre and made literate thirty learners.

  • One lady learner who was daily laborer of the Putulipani mines of Banspal Block became literate in the total literacy campaign and inspired other lady literate workers to read and due to her inspiration another 15 literates became literate. They were studying in the lunch hour in the mines area.

  • Four total literacy centers were running inside the Keonjhar Jail and the literate inmates became literate. The literate detainees of the jail were teaching them.

  • Some committed volunteers formed a "Sabuja Sakshyara Ama Pathagara " in the village Kundapitha in Ghatagaon Block to continue the post literacy programme and continuing education moping up activities are running.

  • One school teacher named Bhaskar Ch.Mishra of Keshadurapal of Ghasipura Block was moving in different villages regularly keeping his bedding on the cycle carrier to monitor the total literacy campaign .He was making night halts in different villages and could manage to run the defunct centers by organizing voluntary instructors and learners.

  • On behalf of Block Sakshyarata Samiti at Bhagamunda Panchayat of Harichandanpur one intensive sterilization camp was organized, where about 100 new literates were sterilized.

  • One girl student name Tulasi Behera of Class-VI of Janardanpur UGMES being inspired in the campaign started teaching illiterates near her home numbering about 10 during the evening hours.

  • One Dhanurjaya Mahanta a volunteer of village Dalapanka in Damahuda GP of Saharpada Block was teaching 30 learners. Under his inspiration 24 learners had opened Savings Accounts and planted five trees each in their homes apart from protecting a plantation in a 2.5 Acres patch of public land. The volunteers and neo-literates had collected 89 nos. of books for their village library through "Pustak Vikhy".

  • One lady volunteer formed a "DWCRA" group with her neo-literates at Pitatangar village of Harichandanpur Block.

  • District Magistrate along with all District level officers visited all the 140 Juanga (Primitive Tribal Community) villages to creates awareness among them.

  • People were so impressed during the campaign that huge amount was collected by them by means of "Sakshyarata Vikhya" from which K. Oil was purchased for the literacy centers through out the district.

  • Two cycle rallies were conducted to study the impact of literacy campaign upon the people. The rally covered 80 Keonjhar.ms in each day. One lady teacher aged about 44 was so impressed and accompanied the rally for about 50 k.ms

  • Kalyana Panchayat was build up with the following norms i.e. villages with 70% literacy,90% immunization,90% sterilization of illegible couple,90% house holders having savings accounts and 100 acres of plantation. Accordingly the following G.Ps are identified.

        The first Kalyana Panchayat Maidakel was so declared by the Hon'ble Chief Minister, Orissa Mr. Biju Pattanayak on 16.02.1994.

  • Being impressed with the campaign the lady neo-literates of Bramhandeo village, G.P.-Tangarapada of Patna Block were united and persuade the villager to stop taking country liquor.

  • On 23.01.1994 in a literacy meeting at Keshadurapal of Ghasipura Block about 16 persons having the habit of taking liquor promised before the District Magistrate present there not to take liquor further and also gave a written assurance to that effect

        An Action Plan for continuing Education Programme has been submitted by the Z.S.Samiti, Keonjhar to the Director, Mass Education, Orissa on 31.5.2000.Very soon the programme will be implemented in the district.

        In each continuing Education Centre One Prerak and one Assistant Prerak will be engaged on contractual basis on the monthly remuneration of Rs.700/- and Rs.500/- respectively. In each Nodal Continuing Education Centers One prerak and one Asst. Prerak will be engaged in the monthly remuneration of Rs.1200/- and Rs.700/- respectively.

        To each N.C.E.C. and C.E.C. teaching and learning materials sport items, recreational materials like Radio, T.V. etc. and bicycle will be supplied.

        Under this scheme special programmes for economic development of the people like quality life improvement programme, income generating programme, individual interest promotion programme and equivalency programme will be organized.
